Semiconductor dot laser diodes emit an elliptical beam typically with an ellipticity ratio of 1.5:1 to 2.5:1 (single transverse mode); 2.5:1 to 4.0:1 (multi-mode). Circular beam dot lasers have an ellipticity ratio <1.2:1. Elliptical dot laser modules are ideal for alignment, particle detection etc. while circular dot laser modules are useful for digital X-ray scanning, precise measurement applications and more.
