Solutions for 3-D Measurement
Lasers and LEDs are used in 3D measurement systems for inspection, sorting and defect detection
3D imaging systems allow users to rapidly gain three dimensional information of a scene or object. Laser and LED illumination can be used in 3D imaging depending on the method used to capture the information.
The most widely adopted method of 3D imaging is Laser triangulation. This involves the projection of one or more laser spots or lines onto the object. The position of the spot on the detector can then be used to determine its distance from the detector. Laser triangulation is used to detect defects, measure volumes and measure elevations. It is extremely precise and is used in a wide variety of applications. For example it is used in the semiconductor industry to determine the surface quality of wafers. It is also used for volumetric measurement of food products.
When using laser triangulation, the requirements of the laser depend on the object being inspected. With our InViso lasers we provide a range of products to meet your 3D imaging needs. InViso can produce extremely narrow laser lines and this, along with its excellent uniformity will contribute to the success of any 3D imaging system.
"Photogrammetry", another 3D imaging method, describes the detection of reflective markers on the object and analysis of the movement of these markers. LED products, such as SpecBright Arealights from ProPhotonix can be used in this type of application. Examples of its use include the safety and quality inspection in the automotive industry.
